The seed of Chloé's portrait journey started with a painting of Hassan Akkad, a film maker and photographer she met after his perilous journey from Damascus to London. Listening to his story changed the way she painted him. "A portrait without a substrate is only routine practice. Rendering people’s stories affects the way I translate them visually, bringing my practice to life."
